(Yorktown) – Kelly DeLucia, Democratic candidate for the 96th House of Delegates election this November, raised $20,068 both from individual and in-kind donors during the first quarter of 2017.
There were 155 individual cash contributions of $100 or less since announcing her candidacy January 25. 121 of those contributions were $100 or less, and four were in-kind donations.
First Democrat to challenge incumbent Delegate Brenda Pogge since she was elected to the seat in 2007, DeLucia has raised more than three times the total cash contributions of her Republican opponent for the same reporting period that ended March 31.
“I am deeply grateful for the generous support of so many people in my district and from around Virginia, who have told me they want new leadership in Richmond.
My campaign is powered by people from all over the district and the area dedicating their time and talent to make sure they have representation in the Legislature committed to the people’s — not special — interests, and starting right here in House District 96,” she said.
The 96th House of Delegates District, contains parts of York County and James City County.
DeLucia grew up in Yorktown. She graduated from Indiana University’s School of Public and Environmental Affairs with a Bachelors of Science degree in Public Administration with an emphasis in environmental science. As a result, she plans to focus part of her message and efforts on encouraging responsible stewardship of the Chesapeake Bay Watershed.
DeLucia resides in Yorktown with her wife Dee and their two infant sons. “I don’t know how to explain it. When I look at the faces of my sons, and then look at the state of politics today, the sense of responsibility is overwhelming. My mission is clear: to fight for change in the political sphere. It’s the only way to ensure my sons can flourish in the same community that made me who I am today.”
